Christine Russell has nurtured a love of drawing and painting in all media since childhood and is almost entirely self-taught. In recent years Still Life has become her speciality and passion. A fascination in the play of light on surface texture, and the accurate portrayal of its effects on a wide variety of subject matter, is the challenge which drives her work. Soft pastel, with its versatility and immediacy, helps her to achieve exceptional richness and depth of tone.
She has exhibited regularly with the Pastel Society at the Mall Galleries in London, and at the Westminster Gallery with both the Society of Women Artists and the United Society of Artists - the latter two societies offering her full membership in 1996. In addition her work has been shown in a large number of mixed exhibitions throughout the UK.
Christine was born in London in 1952 and today (1998) she lives in Gloucestershire with her husband and two grown up children.
